About the Artist

My name is Kristin Fisher and I’m an oil painter currently based in Anchorage, Alaska. I was born in Jacksonville, Florida and lived there most of my life (with a one-year stint in Texas) until the opportunity arose to move to Alaska- a childhood dream of mine!

As a child, I loved all things artistic- drawing, painting, crafting- even if I wasn’t particularly great at it. In high school, I began sculpting and quickly fell in love with using ceramics as a sculpting medium. As you can imagine, this is a fairly impractical hobby if you don’t have access to a kiln- which I did not- and in college I pivoted my focus to pursuing my career in the mental health field.

I didn’t actually discover my love for painting until after obtaining my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology- and it happened by accident. While working full-time in my field, I was running a support group that requested to play with some watercolor paints that were donated to us. Suddenly I remembered I enjoyed making art!

I began teaching myself the basics of painting in watercolors and acrylics, however it wasn’t until years later that I started taking formal art classes (both private lessons and university lessons where I could find them). I still work full-time in the mental health field (and have completed a Master’s degree and obtained independent licensure in my field of practice) and when I’m not working or painting, my favorite way to spend time is mountain hiking with my husband and our pup, Ryker. Painting has become such a core part of my own mental health journey and has healed so much for me, and I hope that my paintings can serve a similar purpose for others! While I do enjoy painting Alaskan landscapes en plein air (or on-location painting- the beauty of this land is truly unmatched), my real passion lies in figurative and floral paintings and capturing raw emotions and the delicate beauty of the relationship between humanity and nature- how we bloom, fade, evolve, and root ourselves in experience, creating visual poetry about existence.

Thank you for taking the time to read a little about me!
